St. Ursula’s School News
Well done to all in St. Ursula’s who participated in the Waterford Primary Schools Sports in the Regional Sports Complex on April 17th. The girls were so successful that they succeeded in winning “Best Overall School” for the very first time. Having won Best Girls School several times in the past, this was a new feather in their cap. Claire Purcell, Captain (and winner of 3 medals herself!), was delighted to accept the cup on behalf of the school. Sincere thanks to all the ‘Super Subs’ who stood in for others and to all the supporters who braved the long, cold night. Special congratulations go to the Relay teams who really performed well and to the following medal winners: U8/U9 Alannah Conroy, Holly Stenson, Zoe Fanning, Bianca Karvai, Laura Fanning, Katie Martinova, Chloe Farrell, Mollie Hutchinson, Brona Sheridan, Kate Ryan and Lauren Gater. U10/U11: Shauna Brazil, Gemma Browne, Julie Power, Ella Robson, Carmen Chan, Aoife Harrisson, Sinead O’Keeffe, Megan Carroll, Aisling Quinn and Mella Conte. Aisling Quinn and Sinead O’Keeffe took part in an Athletics event in Kilmacow recently, Aisling winning gold and silver in the U12 700m and 80m respectively and on the winning U12 Relay team while Sinead won gold and bronze in her races.
St. Ursula’s Dancers
Congratulations to the following girls who competed in a variety of Irish Dancing competitions recently. Leanne Cassidy who got a recall in the World Irish Dancing Championships in Belfast and went on to come 41st out of 126 competitors in her age group; Ciara Suffin and Mella Conte medal winners at the All Ireland and International Championships held in Castlebar; Ciara, Mella and Shauna Doherty winners of both trophies and medals in the Munster Championships in Cork; Shauna medal winner in a feis in Castlecomer and Catherine Flynn trophy and medal winner in a feis in the Woodlands Hotel. Staying with the Arts, Lorna Lyons came 1st in the 10-12 category of a Modern Dance competition in Longford. Her group won Best Group and her school – The Centre Stage School of Dance – won Best School.
Kickboxing, Singers and Swimmers
Belated congratulations to Rebecca Frampton who was awarded her Black Belt in Kickboxing, to Allie Lonergan who was awarded her Green Belt in Judo a number of weeks ago and to Ayeesha Hussain and Kayleigh Haberlin who sang with the Waterford Larks in the Arklow Music Festival. The choir came 1st in the U16 Two-Part Singing, 2nd in the U13 Unison singing and were awarded the Arklow Music Festival Morgan Doyle Trophy. Well done to Magda Gierega and Abbie Madigan who participated in a swimming gala in Fermoy recently. Magda won 1 gold and 3 silver medals while Abbie won 1 bronze all U13.
St. Ursula’s Soccer Stars
Finally, congratulations and well done to all the St. Ursula s girls who currently play with Johnville FC and have won a number of important matches recently Shauna Brazil, Tammy Walsh, Kayley Brazil, Lauren Cottrell, Hayley Walsh and Jill Brown Collins.
Scoil Lorcáin News
As part of An Taisce’s National Spring Clean, Scoil Lorcáin B.N.S. took to the streets of their local community to undertake a local clean-up project. Fourth and fifth class boys targeted the local green areas in St. John’s Park for a “litter-pick”. The boys were keen to heighten awareness of litter and waste issues and to promote pride and respect for the environment as part of Scoil Lorcáin’s Green Flag’s campaign. The event was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Congratulations to Keane Rockett, Bracken Grove, Old Tramore Road, who celebrated his 8th birthday on Sunday; best wishes to Keane from all his family and friends who hope he enjoyed his special day.
Ardkeen Library Book Club
The next meeting of the Ardkeen Library Children’s Book Club will take place on Thursday, 15th May from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. The theme for this meeting will be Michael Carroll’s New Heroes” series of books. And an added bonus for this meeting is that Michael Carroll will visit the book club to discuss his superheroes books: The Quantum Prophecy; Sakkara and Absolute Power. These books are available to borrow and read from the library. For further information about the Ardkeen Library’s Children’s Book Club contact any of the staff members.
The Sacred Heart Parish welcome into its Christian Community: Conor Paul Collins, Aoife Theresa Quinn, Ben Michael Smith and Megan Lily Hayes, who were baptised in the Sacred Heart Church and congratulate parents, godparents and extended families on this joyous occasion.

St. Vincent de Paul
The Sacred Heart Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society would like to thank all who contributed to the monthly church gate collection last weekend. Your continued support and generosity allows the Conference to carry out its many works in the community.
Annual Legion of Mary Retreat
The Annual Legion of Mary (silent retreat) will take place on Sunday, 11th May, in Gracedieu Retreat House, Tramore Road, beginning with registration at 10.15am, followed by periods of: Silent Prayer, Sacrament of Reconciliation, Mass, Free Time and Reflection. Commemoration Mass for Edel Quinn
A Commemoration Mass to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of the Servant of God Venerable Edel Quinn (lay missionary) will take place in the Blessed Edmund Rice Chapel, Mount Sion, Barrack Street, on Wednesday, 14th May at 7.30pm. The celebrant will be Fr. Michael Kennedy. All are Welcome.

Congratulations to Dean Kavanagh, German Road who celebrated his 13th birthday on Thursday, 1st May and also made his Confirmation on Saturday last. All his family and friends hope Dean enjoyed his birthday and Confirmation.
A Baby Boy
Congratulations to Mr Gavin and Shirley McEnery, Avondale, on the birth of their first child – a baby boy. The happy occasion took place on Friday morning last and all their family and friends extend their best wishes to them on this special occasion.

Congratulations to Alexandra Barry, Killure Manor, who celebrated her 9th birthday on Monday last. All her family and friends hope Alexandra enjoyed her birthday.
Well Done Noel
Congratulations to Noel Brown, Ursuline Court, who was the runner-up in the National Nature Photography Finals held in Dublin with his stunning photo titled “Itchy Seagull.” Noel was also a winner in the Irish Times monthly photography competition with his shot of two buskers, which he captured at Tramore last year.
Circus at Ballinamona
The great European Circus which is making its first visit to Ireland will be in Ballinamona, (just off the Couse Bridge roundabout) from Thursday, 8th to Sunday, 11th May. Included in the show will be some super circus stars from all over Europe. Show times: Thursday, 7:30pm, Friday, 7:30pm, Saturday, 2:30pm and 5:00pm and Sunday, 2:30pm and 5:00pm.
