Sherry FitzGerald John Rohan is overseeing the sale by public auction on Thursday, March 6th (at 12 noon) of well-known city hostelry T&H Doolan’s, which recently closed its doors, thus ending a centuries-long level of service on George’s Street.

Once owned by the Clancy Brothers, the agent is describing the property as “a truly unique opportunity to acquire one of Ireland’s oldest hostelries said to date from the 1400s”.

The fine Tudor style property, which occupies 574 square metres, is adjacent to many well-known city centres businesses including Shaws, Ladbrokes, Michael Guineys, Pamela Scott, Bank of Ireland and Phelan’s Shoes.

The property comprises ground floor public bar with overhead kitchen, requisite service and storage accommodation, office space together with beer garden to rear.

The wall of the lounge was built over 800 years ago by the Normans and the bar areas are presented in the authentic style of its original era, with wooden beamed ceilings, natural slate and timber floors and traditional style mahogany bar.

The first and second floors have been refurbished to the highest standard and offer comfortable, modern office accommodation.

According to selling agent John Rohan: “T & H Doolan’s offers excellent possibilities to further develop an existing food, beverage and entertainment trade.

“This handsome property is known at a national level and combined with its excellent  location and unique style, it’s no surprise that we have already experienced significant interest in the property.”

Last year, the premises had a rates liability of almost €25,000.
