Does anyone look at the big picture here by having shops like tkmaxx in waterford brings shoppers to the city.The best shop that ever came to waterford!City Council should be ashamed of themselves they have the city the way it is how many times did big shops try and get permission in the city to open up and they were shot down the city went down hill a long time ago before tkmaxx ever came to town sure they even had a problem with them when they went into kilkenny!Well its not over until the fat lady sings!Theres a lot of fighting left in tkmaxx!

Shame on waterford council to try close tk max at a time of recession because of buercraty policy.As disateris as the government with there out of touch policies and decissions.Not capable to think as ordinary people with real common sense of reality.messed up the new shoping center in micheal street.ie .to many bariers and way to slow to move on decissions.Even the polish labourers on building sites knew a recession was on the way as far back as 2006 as i did.council had it chances and made a mess of it now their carry on regardless with tk max in their sights for a few bob parking fees to which not one parking area is or will be conviniant to any site in town with bulky shopping items.As an example of a council to do business with they click all the wrong boxes.PS the speed limit on the ring road is more burucraty nonsense could easily be 80km but then again look at track record , bouch it and denigh it no matter 100% wrong you get.ROLL ON LOCAL ELECTIONS lets replace these fudy dudys with a young dyamic council.

A pure utter disgrace, by so called city fathers in our best interests, more like in the interests of their own pockets. The city centre is shameful and in my view always was, even when times were so called ‘Good’. There was no investment, don’t cry planning, cry lack of vision, lack of ambition to be the best, more like I am alright Jack, cheers at the local bar, see you at the tennis club or out at Castle, and be damned with the people you pay pay 8 euro a hour and screw them into buying overpriced crap marketed as a great fashion item and by the way enjoy your wonderful shopping experience while i hold the keys to your Porche, what a pile of b*ll*cks
TK Maxx, the set up was excellent, shopping in comfort as it should be, American style, good selection, cheap prices, great car parking and FREE.
I have mixed internationally with both some of the poorest and richest people in the world, my work took me there, and i was always impressed by their desire to be the best in their class, they were dripping in ambition, in HOPE, in I can do attitude. While travelling , and indeed I have been in some red hot spots, surrounded by more red hot people and when Ireland came up they talked about Guinness and Crystal. That was a time to be proud. Yet our city fathers saw fit to preside over its closure and proceed to open a kiosk for the vulture VC fund that bought it out. Not a word of support for the 800 workers who lost their pensions or a word of condemnation for those directors who I understand second hand ,cashed in their multi million euro pensions in the months prior to WWW going bust.
Here is what should be done in this city/ county. Rebuild the old city walls, Use CPO where ever necessary, including along the quays, take it out of private ownership, make the city centre a place for great pubs, cafes, galleries, theatres, individual shops, the shopping centres keep outside, restore the crystal factory, link in mount congreve, use the polo grounds, link via rail, old steam engine, including tramore and back in to old railway station, put Casinos and upgrade horse racing in Tramore, link the airport to Heathrow or Gatwick and Frankfurt. Take the PWC report and build an interenational banking centre, based on the best in compliance and transparency, and now you are seeing real development, move to university status,now you are starting to rock and roll.
