Mullinavat native Seamus Walsh, the new owner of Waterford Castle Hotel and Golf Club, has major plans to expand the resort.

Speaking to The Munster Express, Mr Walsh said the 80 jobs are secure since his purchase which has been warmly welcomed.

Seamus intends to work on new plans to expand membership in the Golf Club.

Boast business in the Castle expanding on the current Leisure, Wedding and Event business. The resort also boasts 45 Luxury lodges.

Seamus plans on developing the Island to a 5 Star Resort. Tourism in the south east will be boosted by the new investment which secures the future of one of the premier resorts in the region.

The demand for The Island as a venue for weddings has been boosted knowing that the future of the castle is now secured by a passionate owner. Mr Walsh added: “We are open for business.”

Mr Walsh told The Munster Express that he was raised in Mullinavat, and went to school locally. He served his time as a carpenter with Michael Walsh (no relation to Seamus) from neighbouring Piltown.

Seamus emigrated to Australia in 1984 based in Melbourne and Sydney where he has employed in excess of 100 staff, building up a very successful business.

Seamus Walsh will continue to run his construction business in Australia as well as having Waterford Castle Island back home. See next week’s edition for a full interview.
