Waterford City Massed Bands Charity Concert

For One Night Only

On Fri 10th of October all roads will lead to The Sacred Heart Church The Folly for the incredible Waterford City Massed Bands Charity Concert. The Massed Bands literally raise the roof every year when over one hundred musicians come together from Waterford’s established Bands such as The Barrack Street Concert Band, City Of Waterford Brass, The Dela Salle Scout Pipe Band, The Thomas Francis Meagher Fife and Drum Band, accompanied by The Waterford String Ensemble and some invited guest musicians. The Massed Bands are conducted by Mark Fitzgerald and Julie Quinlan and they will lead The Massed Bands on a journey of Movie songs, Pop Songs and sing along standards that will lift your spirits and emotions that will leave you with great memories. Over ten Thousand people have attended the Massed Bands Concerts over the years and this year’s concert will no doubt attract a capacity audience. Soprano Donna Roche along with David Flynn of The Celtic Tenors will once again utilise their fantastic voices with the Backing of the huge band which without doubt will be one of many highlights, also added is the much anticipated 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award Winner to be named on the night which will join an illustrious list of Waterford ambassadors who have been synonyms at the heart of Waterford’s Entertainment, Arts and Culture and have dedicated their talent to making people happy. John O Shea of WLR fm will make his debut to Compère this years show and Ger O Brien will again produce and Steer the ship. The Charities who will receive proceeds from this years concert are The Samaritans Waterford Branch, The Waterford Disability Network and The Waterford Marine Search and Rescue. Tickets can be purchased from City Jewellery Repair, City Square Waterford, and Cahill’s Newsagent Main Street Tramore at an unbelievable 10 Euros, or any participating band Members.

Steve Walsh MBE, The Head of Production at The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will return to Waterford this year to be Guest of Honour at this year’s Waterford City Massed Bands Charity Concert which takes place at The Sacred Heart Church, The Folly on October 10th at 8pm. This will be Steve’s third visit to Waterford and the concert where on his last visit he stated ‘if he closed his eyes, the music the Waterford City Massed Band played made him feel as if he was at his own Edinburgh Tattoo which for him was as good as it gets’. A great endorsement of a highly respected figure that is at the head of The Worlds biggest Massed Band. As predicted tickets have flown for this unique concert and The Committee of The Waterford Massed Bands Concert would advise those who intend to go to the concert to try a purchase a ticket as there is a limited amount on sale every year and it also shortens the queues as patrons are entering the church on the night.

City Bands participating are: Barrack Street Concert Band, City of Waterford Brass, De La Salle Scout Pipe Band, Thomas Francis Meagher Fife and Drum Band and the Waterford String Ensemble.
Charities who will benefit from funds raised at this year’s concert are: Waterford Marine Search and Rescue, Waterford Disability Network and Samaritans Waterford and South East Branch.
You will be lifted and amazed by the sounds the Massed Band create under the musical direction of Mark Fitzgerald and Julie Quinlan. It will be a night to remember, in time you will say ‘I was there!!’
