WIT’s Vice-President of Research and Innovation remains upbeat about the Institute’s future despite a turbulent few months for the region’s leading education provider.
Speaking to The Munster Express at the Enterprise Ireland/IDA ‘Big Ideas’ event, Professor Willie Donnelly believes long-term planning, liaising with Waterford City & County Council and examining further EU funding streams must all be positively committed to.
“We’ve got to keep thinking bigger,” said Prof Donnelly. “We’ve got to see how we can better ourselves and improve our ranking and our position both nationally and internationally.”
He added: “Part of that involves planning for our long-term future, and that involves partnering with Waterford City & County Council through a number of initiatives and strategies and examining how we can positively exploit EU funding programmes to help drive both the Institute and the south east region forward when it comes to long-term thinking and investment.
