Late Bridget Beresford

The death occurred of Bridget Beresford, Ballinakill, Ballinamult, Dungarvan, at the Care Choice Nursing Home in Abbeyside on Sunday morning of last week. She had reached an advanced age.

Bridget was a lady of immense charm and personality, a truly impeccable wife and mother, and a person who was loved and admired by everyone who knew her. She was a stalwart community member and a lady in whom you could trust your very life with.

She had been predeceased some years by her beloved husband Michael with whom she shared so many years of wedded bliss and with whom she also reared an exemplary family of three sons and a daughter. She was at the very heart of her home parish and to say that she will be sorely missed by her loving family and the wider community is all but stating the obvious.

Bridget had a great love of the GAA and she and her family were deeply involved with the Colligan Rockies club for years and indeed decades. All of her three sons wore the club colours with both pride and distinction, while she took a very particular pride in the fact that her son Jimmy was a regular member of the Waterford senior hurling team for a number of years. Fittingly the tricolour was flown at half mast at Fraher Field for all of the championship games that were played at the venue on the day of her death.

A measure of the true esteem in which Bridget was held was mirrored in the hugely representative cortege that accompanied the removal of her remains from the Drohan Funeral Home to Kilbrien Church on Monday evening of last week. It was one of the largest Kilbrien had seen in a generation and perhaps more. The funeral Mass on the Tuesday was celebrated in the presence of an overflow congregation and afterwards Bridget was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

She is survived by her sons Laurence(Lar), Jimmy, and Liam, her daughter Ann, her daughters-in-law Norma and Jean, her son-in-law James, her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, her beloved grandchildren, and many other relatives. To all of them our sincerest sympathy is extended.
