Late Dr. Patrick Kelly
Profound sorrow was occasioned by the death of Dr. Patrick Kelly, Springfield, Tramore, who was pre-deceased in April 20908 by his wife Margaret (Peggy) and by his daughter Reenie in 2006.
The esteem and high regard in which the deceased and his family are held was amply illustrated by the truly representative concourse of sympathisers attending the removal from Thompson’s Funeral Home, Barrack Street, Waterford to Holy Cross Church, Tramore.
The remains were received and blessed on arrival by Fr. Michael Toomey who, on his own behalf and on behalf of Canon Nicholas O’Mahony, Monsignor John Shine and the Parish of Tramore, extended sympathies to the family. Our thoughts and prayers were also with those who were having difficulties travelling to Tramore to pay their respects.
At the Requiem Mass Bishop Patrick Sheehan said that during Advent we had prayed for the grace to be ready always to meet the Lord. With the first Christmas in Bethlehem the long awaited dawn of salvation had arrived. Christ became man for each one of us. Pope Gregory wrote “recognise Christian your dignity”. Our faith assures us that our sadness at the death of Dr. Patrick Kelly gives way to the bright promise of immortality, that in death our life is changed but not ended, for those who put their faith and trust in our Saviour. This assurance comes from the words of Jesus Christ himself as the Book of Wisdom tells us “the souls of the virtuous are in the hands of God, no torment shall ever hurt them. In the eyes of the unwise they appear to die, but they are at peace”. We take comfort and are consoled as we recall the promise of the Lord, “He who follows Me will have the light of life”.
Dr. Patrick Kelly will be sadly missed and his memory long cherished by friends in Tramore and Hampshire, England who were truly privileged to make his acquaintance.
Sincere sympathy in their sad loss is extended to his bereaved daughter Kathleen, sons Patrick and Tim, extended family, relatives and friends.
