Late Frank O’Sullivan

Many friends learned with a deep and numbing sense of grief of the untimely and unexpected death of Frank O’Sullivan, Dental Surgeon, St Mary’s, Ballycarnane and Elm Park, Tramore.

The immense and truly representative concourse of mourners attending the removal from Thompson’s Funeral Home to Holy Cross Church amply indicated the esteem and high regard in which Frank and his family is held. The remains were received and blessed on arrival by Monsignor Nicholas O’Mahony.

At the requiem mass prior to burial in the adjoining cemetery Fr Michael Toomey was joined by Fr Michael Enright, said that when the news broke there was a sense of shock and disbelief in the whole town of Tramore because Frank was so well known, loved and respected.

Frank was described as a very warm and friendly natured person with a great sense of humour. He was very generous with his time, especially when there were dental emergencies. He loved horse racing, hurling and Gaelic football and there was a large presence from Tramore GAA club and the club jersey was on the memorial table.

Fr Michael read a prayer which really summed Frank up, “Thank you O Lord for the privilege of being a dentist, for letting me serve you administering to the sick and afflicted, may I always treat with reverence the human life which you have brought into being which I serve…deepen my love for people so that I will always serve so that I will always give myself gladly to those stricken with pain. Help me to listen carefully, diagnose carefully, prescribe conscientiously and treat gently. Teach me to blend gentleness with skill to be a dentist with heart as well as mind.”

The prayers of the faithful remembered Frank’s parents May and Michael, aunts Stella, Margaret, Lily and Eileen.

Sincere sympathy in their sad loss is extended to his bereaved brother Pat, sister-in-law Maura, nephews Michael and Neil, aunts Anna and Teresa, cousins, extended family, relatives and many friends. May he rest in peace.
