Late Ned Duffin
It is with regret that we record the passing of Ned Duffin, formerly of Cross Roads, Cheekpoint, County Waterford, who passed away at his home in Hawley, Pennsylvania, USA on February 5th. Ned is survived by his wife Mary, formally Mary Lonergan from Sadliers Well, Co Tipperary.
Ned Duffin was son of the late Patrick Duffin and Anastasia Hanlon Duffin and brother to the late Biddy Duffin, Kitty Power, Annie Murphy, Rosie Farrugia, Jim Duffin, Judy Meechan and Charlie Duffin. He was the last surviving member of the family. He is survived by nieces Aileen Burke; Grange Heights, Ann Power; Carrigsaggart, Juliane O’Sullivan; Griffith Place, Breda Murphy; Crooke, Una Sharp; Coolbunia and Breda Duffin Salduti, New Jersey; nephews Julian Farrugia, Canada; Jim Murphy, Liverpool; Kevin Power, Cork; Gerry Power, Dunmore East; Pat Murphy, Passage East; Philip Duffin, Waterford and Paul Duffin, Cheekpoint; sisters and brothers-in-law Alice Duffin, Veronica Duffin, Cheekpoint; Ellen and Frank Carr, Mooncoin; Alice Crowe, Tipperary Town; Catherine Goan, Belfast; William Lonergan, Middlesex, England; Elizabeth LaTournous, Pennsylvania.
Prior to emigrating to the United States with his wife Mary after their marriage in 1959, Ned was a commissioned officer in the Irish Army during the Second World War. He also served in the English merchant marines for 16 years during which he spent eight years as quartermaster on the Queen Elizabeth. Before his retirement Ned was Fleet Manager of Victaulic Company, New Jersey.
Ned and Mary celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary on March 17th, 2009 and on the 29th January this year he celebrated his 88th birthday.
Ned will be sadly missed by his wife Mary and his family and many friends both in the States and Ireland. Ned’s wife Mary together with his sister in law Elizabeth LaTournous will accompany his remains from the States and will arrive for a memorial mass in Tipperary on the Thursday, 22nd March. Interment will take place after 11am mass on Friday, 26th March in Faithlegg Church. Ar Dheis de go raibh siad.
