The late Caitlin de Faoite

Kathleen White (nee Killigrew), An Rinn, Co. Waterford and Formerly of Waterford County and City Infirmary.

Ar an tríú lá de Dheireadh Fómhair do leath scamall dubhach brónach ar Ráth na mBirínneach agus ar mhuinntir na Rinne mar gur d’imigh uainn Cáitlín de Faoite. Ba dheacair a shamhailt go n-imeodh bean chomh beo bríomhar léithe ach caithfear glacadh le toil Dé. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a hanam.

Rugadh Cáitlín sa Rinn de mhuinntir Chiligriú agus bhí an Ghaolainn ón gcliabhán aici. Chuaidh sí go dtí scoil Náisiúnta na Rinne agus dtí meánscoil i gCathair Phortláirge.

She trained as a nurse in the County and City Infirmary, Waterford, and qualified in 1964, she did further training in midwifery in Holles Street Maternity Hospital, Dublin. She worked for a time in the London Clinic before returning to Ireland to work again in the County and City Infirmary, Waterford. She married Seán White in 1974 and returned to live in Ráth na mBirínneach, where they settled and had two children; Séamus and Sinéad. Caitlin resumed her career as a nurse with the Sisters of the Bon Sauveur in Carriglea and worked there for almost thirty years.

Grá Dé agus grá na gcomharsan na tréithe ba láidre i bpearsantacht Cháitlín. Níl aon áireamh ar an gcúnamh agus an cóir leighis a thug sí do dhaoine a bhí tinn agus i bpráinn cabhrach sa pharóiste. Níor mhaith léithe féin go ndéanfaí tagairt don chabhair seo go poiblí ach is dá bharr go raibh cion ar leith ag muinntir na Rinne uirthi.

Cáitlín had many hobbies; in her younger days she played camogie and badminton and always enjoyed walking. She had a great love of the GAA and was involved in fundraising for CLCG na Rinne and for a number of years was in charge of first aid for the teams. She was a dedicated follower of the ‘Déise’ and travelled to all the hurling matches. In recent years she found a new interest in horse racing and enjoyed going to race meetings with Séan. Their holidays nearly always coincided with race meetings.

She lay in repose at her residence, where many visited to pay their respects. Removal took place on Sunday October 4 to Séipéal na Rinne. On Monday morning a large crowd gathered for her funeral mass, which was concelebrated by An tAth. Ó Ceallaigh and An tAth. Mac Ionrachtaigh. Caitlín was escorted to her final resting place by a guard of honour from CLCG na Rinne and the staff and some of the residents of Carriglea Cáirde Services.

The family would like to thank most sincerely all her wonderful friends who cared and nursed her during her final few weeks.

Braithfidh an chlann agus an paróiste go léir imeacht Cháitlín, go háirithe a fear céile Séan, a mac Séamus, iníon Sinead, a deirfiúr Máire, a cliamhnacha Liam agus Virginia, a garpháistí Eilidh agus Colmán chomh maith le gaolta agus a cáirde go léir.

Go raibh leaba i measc na naomh aici.
