The regional newspapers of this country have always featured photographers who were and are something special, a definite cut above the rest where reportage becomes art.
This newspaper has always been particular about its photographs and as well as staffers like Eoin Murphy and the late Simon Farrell we used and use work from the most talented freelancers.
Recently, an exhibition of Eoin’s work from the 70s and 80s was mounted in The Granary and, at present, there is an exhibition in The Glór Theatre, Ennis, of the wonderful photographs of John Kelly who has worked for The Clare Champion for the past 25 years. All proceeds will go to the RNLI.
Week after week, John produces superb, evocative images and I have no doubt this exhibition will be a huge success.
There are camera clubs all over the South East region comprising many talented photographers and, respectfully, I would encourage them all to make their way to Ennis where they will see the work of a master. Highly recommended.
