In 1969 the album ‘Abbey Road’ was released. It was The Beatles’ 11th studio LP and went on to become the group’s best selling album ever.
The cover photograph also became probably the most iconic album cover in the history of popular music and much was made of the fact that Paul McCartney was not wearing shoes.
Recently unearthed is a photograph taken just seconds beforehand which shows Paul, wearing flip-flops, telling the photographer what way he wanted the shot taken. It really is a photograph taken seconds before history was created.
Incidentally, the white Volkswagen Beetle seen in the photograph was owned by a resident of Abbey Road and is now in the Volkswagen Museum in Germany.
