The 'Companion' walking app is an intriguing idea

It seems there is an app for everything these days but I think the new ‘Companion’ app is worth considering for a number of good safety reasons.
Sadly, violence is so commonplace now that most people would not consider a walk home late at night. It’s safer and quicker to take a taxi and, usually, there are plenty of them to go around.
But some people do unexpectedly find themselves in a ‘walking’ situation and that’s where the new app can help. It was designed and built by five university students that were anxious about walking alone late at night.
With the app, you input your destination and add a few contact numbers for friends or family. Instantly, your friends know you are walking and if you go off route, don’t make it home on time or if you fall, your contacts are notified to check up on you.
The ‘Companion’ app is attracting attention from families with teenagers as well as those taking care of elderly relatives. Good idea, hope it’s a success.
