On Friday last, May 21st, 40 students from Comeragh College in Carrick-on-Suir visited Dunmore East Adventure Centre as part of their Junior Achievement Ireland Enterprise Challenge project.

The programme, financed through the Dormant Accounts Additionality Fund from the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, involved a classroom programme titled ‘The Economics of Staying in School, along with visits to WIT and Abbott Vascular in Clonmel.

To mark the end of this project the students and their teacher, Willy Quigley took part in team challenges such as archery and rock climbing.

They also took part in water based activities including kayaking, open canoes, pedal boats and a power boat trip and a great time was had by all.

According to Mr Quigley: “This was a fantastic opportunity for these students and they learned a lot from each of the different stages and thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Dunmore East Adventure Centre.”

A national not-for-profit organisation, Junior Achievement Ireland teaches young people about the world of work, encouraging them to remain in education.

This year 60,000 Irish children, aged between five and 18 in 500 schools nationwide, with the help of 3,000 business volunteers, will take part in Junior Achievement’s enterprise and life skills programmes.

Junior Achievement brings enthusiastic business volunteers from local organisations into the classroom to deliver the structured, hands-on and activity-based programmes, motivating and inspiring young people to value their education and equip them with the skills they need to succeed at school and in life.
