Gold for Elocution in Árd Scoil

Gold-for-Roisin-Leonard-and-Clara-DSC03057Gold Medals for Outstanding Achievement in Elocution were awarded to Roisin Leonard and Clara Mannion at the examinations held in Árd Scoil na nDéise, Dungarvan just before the summer holidays.

Visiting examiner David Meredith paid tribute to the high standards, hard work and dedication displayed by all the First Year candidates, and there is no doubt that he was extremely impressed by their good clear speech and nice manners because they all got great marks.

Árd Scoil na nDéise, Dungarvan is the only school in County Waterford offering Elocution as a mandatory part of the curriculum for all First Yr students.

“In Ard Scoil na nDéise we develop all aspects of the individual student in a caring environment.” says Principal Dorothy Hughes.

“The elocution class builds self confidence through improvised drama and short pieces of prose and poetry, not necessarily academic”, explains teacher Joan Clancy.

“All of the First Yr students are prepared for individual examinations” adds Deputy Principal Colette Power, “with the emphasis on good speech, proper courtesy and etiquette. An important life skill. And they love it!” www.ardscoildungarvan.com
