Demand for Courses at Kildalton College to continue
Kildalton College education courses will continue to attract large numbers of students into agriculture and horticulture again in 2011 based on the numbers of potential students who visited the Teagasc College for its recent open day.
There has been a huge increase in the number of young people seeking agricultural/horticultural education which has driven demand for places on courses at Kildalton College to its highest level in more than two decades.
Frank Murphy, College Principal said that “Enrolments at Kildalton College have almost doubled in the past 5 years reflecting a growing confidence in the future of agriculture and the food industry.
The agri-food industry has now been identified as key to economic recovery and the sector is of strategic importance when it comes to food security”.
John Kelly, Assistant Principal pointed out that as we come to the ending of milk quotas, exciting opportunities are emerging for young Irish farmers to expand and enter milk production. He welcomed the increased interest in agriculture and pointed out that the entry of young well trained farmers into the industry was a very positive trend which will improve the age structure of farmers at a national level.
He advised students interested in enrolling for courses in 2011 to contact their local agricultural college, as applications are now been taken for next year.
Application forms and further details are available directly from Kildalton College on 051-644400.
