St. Angela’s Secondary School
Pupils from St. Angela’s Secondary School have created some beautiful artwork, which is part of the “Bin It 2009″exhibition. This exhibition is on view in the Central Library, Lady Lane, until 17th April. Six other secondary schools from around Waterford are also taking part in the exhibition, which is part of a litter programme with secondary school children to highlight how their actions and the actions of others can affect their local community. A litter problem in some areas surrounding some secondary schools led the Waterford City Council to raise the litter issue with secondary schools in 2007. Following discussions with the schools a litter programme was developed, which involved the following: A talk on litter, involving one of Waterford City Council’s Litter Wardens; a grant for the provision of additional bins within the schools. In addition to this, Waterford City Council installed additional bins in areas near secondary schools, and a group of student from each school were then chosen to work with artists to illustrate how they see litter. The pupils from St. Angela’s and the other schools have been working with artists Sinead Mulligan and Jeannine Storan over the past six weeks to produce works that are both imaginative and original. All are welcome to view the exhibition in the Central Library.
