Stella Maris Arts Committee Strikes Again

As the end of term fast approaches, the days gradually become shorter, the nights longer and the end-of-season exams close in on us unfortunate students, the Arts Committee has decided to brighten the atmosphere with some festive fun.

Bringing the spirit of Christmas to the corridors of Stella Maris, Arts Committee members this week donned their Santa hats and their sacks filled with goodies ranging from cameras to goggles, bubbles to DVDs. For a small fee, students could dip their hands into the Lucky Dip and rummage for a gift – each participant guaranteed to find something, but all searching for that top prize: a €20 voucher for Storm Cinema. The idea proved to have phenomenal popularity, with all of the forty presents snapped up within two days! In the end, that elusive spot prize was nabbed by first year student, Aisling Dillon. We hope she treats herself to a good movie and bucket-loads of popcorn!

Because we arty types never sleep, our Christmas celebrations did not stop with the Lucky Dip. A drama workshop was organised for first year students, who responded enthusiastically to the idea. Charismatic drama teacher James Rockett conducted the hour-long drama class, and afterwards the girls sang his praises. The workshop was so successful that the Arts Committee are now exploring the possibility of extending it to other year groups – though that does depend on whether or not the snow decides to make another appearance!
