Two teens ‘trad’ the summer
Busking is a social business, playing for all God’s creatures. Well this Summer busking is the way of life for Aisling and I. We have been playing music since we were tots, mostly trad fiddle but more recently we have added the concertina and even tin whistle too. It’s the first traditional instrument that you learn, the penny whistle. After that we graduated to banjo, fiddle, accordion, flute: but we always came back to the shrill thrill of the whistle. We select bright tunes with a bit of personality that connect with shoppers and strollers, and gives them a lift and get their feet tapping. We play tunes that actually make people smile, honestly you would have to see it to believe it, old and young breaking out into wide smiles. A nun came up to us last week in George’s Street, put down her messages and danced a hornpipe, right there in the street. “I haven’t done that in years, brings me back” she said. We were thrilled.
Two talented and beautiful girls sharing so much with so many – thanks!
