Waterford Museum of Treasures will feature in the new archaeology children’s series Ireland
Ireland – Dig It! is a brand new RTÉ TV series where teams of 9-13 year old students, from 5th class, 6th class and 1st year, have the chance to play an exciting and energetic archaeology adventure on TV! We want to get local schools involved, and as the deadline for applications is 30th April, we want to those applications rolling in as soon as possible! The competition is open to schools anywhere in the country.
Each team will have to use all their knowledge of local and national history and archaeological discoveries to win a place in the Ireland – Dig It! grand final, where they have the chance to win a specially tailored trip to Brú na Bóinne Centre for Newgrange and Knowth for their entire class.
Each episode begins in a different museum around the country, and we’re delighted to announce Waterford Museum of Treasures will feature in one of the episodes. At these locations the teams will begin their archaeological quests and collect important clues and information to help them on their journey. The other museums that will feature are the Hunt Museum in Limerick, Cavan County Museum and County Museum Dundalk.
Mind the Gap Films is making the programme with the support of the Heritage Council, the Local Authority Museums and The Hunt Museum, Limerick.
This programme aims to educate young people about archaeology and our shared heritage, and to give them the opportunity to explore the past in a new, exciting hands-on way. Ireland – Dig It! will take history out of the museums and bring it alive.

The programme will air on The Den in Autumn, 2010.
All budding archaeologists who want to take part in the series should go to the website www.rte.ie/irelanddigit and help our Bronze Age Warrior retrieve the precious objects that have mysteriously gone missing from his grave.
When they find all the missing treasures, he’ll provide a Dig It! Secret Code that’s needed to complete application form. Completed forms should be sent to Ireland – Dig It!, 6 Wilton Place, Dublin 2, no later than April 30th.
