All Ireland Juvenile Championships

Record breaking Kate Veale (West Waterford AC) en route to the All-Ireland Under-17 3000 metre walk title.
On Saturday last at the final section of this year’s All-Ireland Juvenile Championships in Tullamore a number of athletes from Waterford clubs competed.
Ferrybank AC’s Ciara Giles Doran won the Under 16 200 metres in 25.01 seconds while Aisling Quinn took Under-14 1500 metres in a time of 4 minutes 50.57 seconds.
In the Under-17 High Jump Megan Kiely and Sorcha Murphy both cleared 1.60 metres, Thomas Barr was second in the Under 19 High jump and Tom Whelan claimed bronze in the Shot Putt.
West Waterford had three winners, namely Kate Veale in the Under-17 3000 metre walk in a record time of 13 minutes 16.19 seconds.
Kate Hickey won the Under 16 Discus with a throw of 31.77 metres and Zoe Scanlon won the Under-18 Shot Putt thanks to a throw of 10.70 metres.
Ciara Scanlon placed second in the Under-17 hammer and in the Under-14 200 metres Seamie Fennell was third, while Tramore’s Emmanuel Ojbonna was third in the Under-16 triple jump.
On Sunday, also in Tullamore, Ferrybank’s Under-18 girls won the 4x 300 metres event while their Under-17 girls were second in the 4 x 100 metres. Third placings were secured by three further Ferrybank relay teams (Girls Under-13, 16 and 18) while the boys Under-19s were also third in their 4 x 400 final.
