Stage 2 of Club League a Big Success

What a day and what a turnout! 71 club athletes from U/8 to U/18 participated in the second stage of the St Senans AC Club League.
This popular event is turning into a real competitive fair.

The revelation of the day was Jason Murphy in the 14+ catagory.. Competing for the first time in any of these events Jason managed to turn some heads with his fantastic shot putt throw followed by some pretty nifty high jump and long jump distances.
It was lovely to see some of our older juveniles participate and show the youngsters what National Standard athletes look like.
The juveniles were wowed by the speed of recent race walking national indoor juvenile gold medalist Isabel Morgan and by the heights scaled by Thomas Sheridan in the high jump, fresh from his fourth place at the recent national juvenile indoors. Newcomer Aine Cooper managed to turn some heads when she clinched first place in the U11 javelin and followed up with a third placing in the shot putt. In fact this age group had 12 participants – not bad from a country club.
Battle Royal
Alfie O’Shea, Ben Brennan and Anil Ramsawmy battled it out for the top honours in the boys U9 category while Emily Cooney won all five events in the girls U9 category.
Eoin Aylward may have missed the first stage but he showed he is a force to be reckoned with when he emerged the overall winner in the U11 boys category.
The boys U13 is another large category with 13 participants.
Peter McDonald showed some talent in the javelin and with some coaching we could hear more of him this summer. Meanwhile in the girls U13 Doireann Knox reinforced her lead from week one but Catherine Calinan who missed the first stage is all set to challenge Libby Murphy in the final next week.
The final stage is next Friday at 10.30am and with the results being so close it is set to be a great mornings competition. Any adult willing to help please let Perri or Stephen know at training or message us here on Facebook.
