World Masters Silver for Joe Gough

On Tuesday of last week in Clermont, France at the world Over-55 Masters Indoor Championships Joe Gough West Waterford Ac put on yet another outstanding performance to take the silver medal in the 800m behind the reigning World 1500m champion Nolan Sheehad USA with Derek Leitch Great Britain third.

The winner was timed at 2 minutes 9.12 secs with Gough’s time being 2 mins 11.14secs. Later on in the week Joe decided to go in the 1000m and made it through to the final where he finished 4th in a time of 4 minutes 36.34 seconds – a new Irish record in the over-55 age group.

Back in 2003 Joe also won a silver world medal in the over-50 800m and he holds all the Irish records in over 40, 45, 50, 55 age groups in the 800m.

Another West Waterford athlete Brendan Moran also competed in the worlds in the over-50 60m and 200m and reached the semi-final in both and set new Irish records in both.
