Bausch and Lomb Wildcats play their final game of Basketball Ireland’s Superleague this coming Sunday with a 3pm tip-off away to Dublin City University.

This will be a momentous task for Wildcats as have been all their games this season. However, the youngest team in the Superleague has given a superb account of themselves in what was always going to be a difficult task against many vastly experienced sides.

They don’t come any more difficult than this game in the capital against a rampant DCU side who recently won their first National Cup preventing Glanmire winning three in a row. The Dubliners average age is 27 while for Wildcats the pride of South East average age is just 18.5 – with the age difference combined with a number of top class internationals DCU are outrageous favourites.

However, coach Mark Ingles says he will be taking nothing for granted as he sees the Wildcats outfit as the team of the future and is high in his praise for their efforts all season, pointing out that only inexperience rather than lack of quality cost Wildcats a number of wins over the past season.

Coach Ingles notes that four of Wildcats losses were by just four points or less and he expects Wildcats in a season or two to recapture their title of “Queens of the court”.

Agonising loss

On last Saturday it was the experience of former Wildcat Jenny Coady and American center Jodi Niland , combined with rash decision making that cost Wildcats a 61-57 loss away to Tolka Rovers.
