The Waterford Basketball team who are the current South East League Under-16 Champions. In a hard-fought game against the reigning league champions Portlaoise, Waterford were five points behind at half-time, 20-15.
Waterford stepped up their game at this stage and with some great defence set themselves up for an all or nothing last quarter.
At the end of the third quarter Waterford, put under pressure by a very tough full court press, were down by two, 26-24. Portlaoise kept Waterford under pressure but Waterford were too determined and hungry on the night and went on a scoring spree of 18 points in the last quarter, a period during which the Midlanders could only score 14. Final score: Portlaoise 36, Waterford 42.
