U14s win at home

Last Sunday Wildcats played host to Brunell with 3 competitive games U14, U15 and U16 in the Mercy gym. First up were the U14s who had recently lost to Brunell in an invitational tournament in Tralee and were anxious to make amends.

Wildcats got off to the better start and were 6 points up at the end of the first quarter.

Some great baskets from Emily Fanning in the second quarter stretched their lead, however Brunell hit back with three 3 pointers to lead 26-25 at the break.

Good rebounding by Dana Aspell and some fine baskets from Ruth Leavy saw Wildcats lead by 5 points at the end of the third quarter in what was a very physical contest.

In a very tense final quarter, Wildcats with a tenacious defence dug deep and eventually won on a scoreline of 48-44. This squad have improved steadily all season losing only two league games.

Next week they face Brunell again, for undoubtedly another bruising encounter, in the Neptune stadium, Cork and should Wildcats win they will be tied level on points with Glanmire at the top of the table.
