U16s are victorious

Wildcats U16s got back on the winning track in the Mercy Gym last Sunday with a resounding 64-46 win over league contenders Brunell, a side that had up to now gone the whole season losing only one game.

This Wildcats side, who have found it difficult to reach their potential this year, finally found some of the form that the club knows they are capable of. This young team seemed to come of age with the excellent Lauren Lawlor leading the charge by dominating the baskets. Ably assisted in defence by Ruth Kelly and in attack by the fit again free scoring Emma Begadon this was also the first time this season the coach had a full squad to choose from.

This was highlighted by the young Wildcats playing open attacking basketball with Clare Leavey pulling the strings at point guard and Yvonne Corcoran bringing the home crowd to their feet with some outstanding 3 point shooting.

Jenna Norris made a telling contribution and when Ciara Molly, Shauna Robinson and Rachael Taheny (who climbed from her sick bed to play) were sprung from the bench in the second half they showed their mettle with outstanding baskets. Wildcats outscored and out fought their rivals in the second half to take full control and finished strongly to win the game with a scoring average of over 15 points per quarter.
