Maxol WIT Wildcats tip off their first game of the 2015/16 Premier League with a home game versus Dublin Northsiders DCU this Saturday night at 7pm in the Mercy Sports Hall, Oznam St.
Wildcats supporters will find many changes in their line up as some of last seasons’ players have moved on to do other things in their lives while a number of players from the Wildcats underage programme get their first taste of Ireland’s top league.
Former Waterford Crystal coach Michael Evans takes the reins this season in his first endeavor in the women’s game.
Michael played a huge part in bringing success to the Crystal / Vikings men’s programme and hopefully he can guide Wildcats to similar glory. He has given his life to Waterford basketball and no doubt all local followers of the game will wish him well.
Wildcats will have two new American players on show in Jazmen Boone and Katie Fox. Both young ladies are here to do their masters degree in Business in WIT as they were awarded Victory scholarships under the Sport Changes Life Programme. You can follow their blogs at http://sportchangeslife.com/ . They will play in the Premier League for Wildcats and in the University championship for WIT. Already both girls are involved coaching Wildcats underage teams and they have created a real buzz in Wildcats Primary miniball development programme at the Mercy gym each Saturday between 9:30 and 12:30 am – indeed numbers attending this have increased since their arrival.
Marie Micoud from France and Deborah Rodrigues from Spain complete the international flavour to the team.
Home talent includes team captain Sinead Deegan, Helena Rohan, Ruthie Leavey, Emily and Annie Fanning. Other players from Wildcats underage programme that are included in the squad this season are Jordan Kervick, Sarah Whelan and Ciara Twomey.
Tip-off is almost upon us let’s hope it’s a winning season for Maxol WIT Wildcats.
