Busy Easter Period for Waterford Racing Club

A congested Easter fixtures schedule ensured that WRC riders were kept busy. The main event was Ras Mumhan in Kerry, an international event featuring professional and national squads which received national media coverage on the six-one news where the WRC jersey was prominent on stage 1 following Robin Kelly’s fine fourth place.

It was mixed fortunes thereafter however for the team of Robin Kelly, Keith Gater, Karol Stafford, John Macdonald, Shane Power and Paul Smith, with punctures, illness and crashes severely curtailing our chances. But that’s racing.

Meanwhile in Leinster at Ras Na Laoise, our squads were ripping it up. Don Feighery continued his recent run with second place in the A3 category whilst David O’Brien and Richard Scannell were sixth and seventh respectively in the A4 race. Our ladies dominated their race before eventually finishing with Martina Cronin in third place and Emma Walsh in fourth.

Emma then brought it up a notch the following weekend however at the Newcastle West Knights Womens 2 day race in Limerick. Having finished fifth on the stage 2 TT, Emma attacked on the final hill of stage 3 to take her (and the clubs) first women’s series victory on the day and third place overall on general classification. In the mens race’s, Keith Gater and Don Feighery were in the points, both finishing in eighth place in the A1 and A3 races respectively, whilst current form man David O’Brien came desperately close in the A4 race, getting pipped on the line to finish in third place.

Fantastic achievements. Well done to all concerned.
