Every year the Lawlors Hotel Senior Football Championship seems to throw up a surprise packet.

Last season, Kilrossanty were the surprise team, marching all the way to a semi-final before being finally beaten by near neighbours Stradbally.

This time around, Gaultier have ticked that box, knocking out a fancied Kilrossanty outfit who had topped their section having defeated Ballinacourty.

Gaultier were two points to the good inside the opening two minutes when the twin strike threat of Hutchinson and Anthony Fitzgerald notched a point apiece.

They were given a great chance to open up a sizeable lead in the fifth minute when following a foul on Hutchinson, referee John Condon awarded the seasiders a penalty.

In their previous encounter against Brickey Rangers, Hutchinson scored from the 11-metre kick but on this occasion, his kick was saved by Darren Mulhearne.

The penalty saved seemed to inject a bit of life into Kilrossanty and they soon had a goal of their own to celebrate.

Following some calamitous defending in front of the Gaultier goal, Conor Doyle was on hand to finish the ball to the back of the Gaultier net.
