Cork take spoils in Sonny Walsh final

Cork 2-6; Tipperary 2-5

Like the Tony Forristal decider, this was another highly entertaining match with little to choose between two very good sides.

Cork made use of the strong breeze running up two points to no score with tone point coming from the stick of Dylan Lenihan.

Tipperary then registered their first score, a point from Paul McGrath, which quickly followed by another Cork point from Gary Leahy.

Dylan Lenihan then scored a superb goal for Cork but Tipperary’s reply was swift with a goal of their own from Matthew Stakelum to leave the half-time score reading 1-3 to 1-1 in favour of Cork.

Facing into the strong breeze Cork got off to a dream start when a long delivery from the side line by Dylan Lenihan went all the way into the net.

But the Premier struck back quickly though a second goal from Matthew Stakelum. From then on it was nip and tuck as they swopped points, but by referee Dessie O’Leary’s (Waterford) full-time whistle, the Rebels had prevailed.

Sean Burke of the Grenagh club accepted the Sonny Walsh Cup for Cork, while Dylan Lenihan of Blarney picked up the Man of the Match Award.
