Carlow this Saturday

This coming weekend promises to be a very exciting one in Division 4 of the Allianz National Football League with a number of make-or-break games down for decision.

The biggest without doubt is the meeting of Antrim and Sligo at Casement Park. Both sides sit proudly on top of the table with 10 points; the Ulstermen having played one more game. Whichever side does win will be expected to contest the final next month.

Wicklow and London meet in Aughrim. The Exiles went into last weekend’s game with Antrim on a high having beaten Waterford the week before in Ruislip but came crashing down to earth against the Glensmen. It’s hard to see them collecting any of the points on offer against Mick O’Dwyer’s side who are possibly out of contention at this stage for a semi-final spot.

Leitrim failed to impress against Waterford last Sunday, so much so that they withdrew their complete full forward line during the course of the game, but they should be too strong for Tom Brennan’s Cats.

Waterford host Carlow on Saturday in Fraher Field (2.30). The Decies bounced back from their shock defeat at the hands of London by beating Leitrim in Dungarvan on Sunday. John Kiely’s men played well in patches and in reality could have won by an even bigger margin.

They’ll need maximum points if they are going to be in with a chance of moving up to Division 3, with their last two games being against pace-setters Sligo and Antrim.
