No stopping Oran Eagle
The Des and Elliot Whyte-owned and Perry Aylward-trained Oran Eagle the 1/1 favourite continued his winning run last Saturday comfortably capturing the final of the Benefit Meetings A2 event with a polished front running success in 28.74.
Whitefort Crash replaced the injured Black Jamie in trap one but with yet another slick exit from traps ‘Oran’ made the long break for home and while the always prominent runner up Freedom State lost nothing in defeat ‘Oran’ went on to triumph by a length.
Race 1: In the opening four bend contest Magic Patch and May Consider dominated the early exchanges up front but as the leading duo kept wide down the back stretch the Cian O’Regan-owned Jos Mcdoaks (2/1) took the shortest route home and striking the front off the home turn ‘Jos’ went on to account for ‘May’ by a length. Time 29.36.
Race 2: In a 325 yard sprint Nice Duke came away smartly from trap three but quickening the pace the Irene Kissach-owned and Davy Morris-trained Tis Only Jerry (5/2) was soon on terms on the wide outside as was Leaders Top on the fence but easing his way to the front ‘Jerry’ went on to beat a running on ‘Leaders’ by one and a half lengths in 17.78.
Race 3: An unlucky loser the previous week the May Aylward-owned and Perry Aylward-trained Mays Dubai (3/1) atoned in no uncertain fashion motoring into an early lead over Springmount Chat and Laoi Na Mara and sticking to the task in hand ‘Mays’ kept on well in the lead to defeat a running on ‘Springmount’ by one and a half lengths in a best ever 28.85.
Race 4: The Dave Gater-owned Four Time Astar (5/2) made sound use of her early gears forging into an early lead from trap two to lead from Beautiful Mike and while track newcomer Colflan Fryer put in some useful late work to grab the runner up spot Four Time Astar deservedly prevailed by one and a half lengths in 29.40.
Race 5: In the early stages of this A2 event Crank Plate showed the way to Skeard Dinny but making eye catching late headway up the fence the Donal Wilson-owned Annual Judge (2/1) motored into a third bend lead before racing on to an easy two and a half lengths defeat of Crank Plate. Time 29.05.
Race 6: In a race of changing leaders over the 550 yard trip Anns Tina grabbed a fourth bend lead from the front running Coco Pop but in a driving finish the John Atkinson owned-Leahs Billy (3/1) stormed home to outstay ‘Anns’ by the minimum distance in 30.36.
Race 7: Duke Special (2/1) attempted to make every yard of the running from trap one but the eventual winner Jumbos Topcat (3/1) would not go away and saving valuable ground on the inside over the final two bends the Dynpna Corcoran-owned and Liam Corcoran-trained ‘Jumbos’ pounced before holding the renewed challenge of the ‘Duke’ by half a length. Time 29.09.
Race 8: Recuperating in a Kilkenny hospital after undergoing recent knee surgery Seamus ‘Shanks’ Whelan missed out on seeing Kitestown Boy (5/2) produce a career best performance running riot over some useful four bend performers in a smashing 28.54. Owned by the trainers daughter Mags and her friend Liz Butler ‘Kitestown’ was not hanging around at the break quickly building up a useful lead over Iguazu Falls and in a one sided contest ‘Kitestown’ cruised to an eight and a half lengths success over ‘Iguazu’.
Race 9: See above.
Race 10: Castle Meyers was prominent from the break here but it was the reserve Reggae Shabo (4/1) running for Caroline Redmond who quickly took control of matters around the opening two bends and striking for home ‘Reggae’ encountered little difficulty in running out a cosy four lengths winner over a running on Sparta Bluebell in a decent 29.05.
Race 11: In the final race of the night over 550 yards there was late support for the David McDonald-owned and Ann Guilfoyle-trained Kilcarrig Pearl and after odds of 3/1 quickly disappeared there was no price about ‘Kilcarrig’ at the off. In a messy race Star Kav and Compass Greg collided at the first turn as ‘Kilcarrig’ did well to stay on her feet and this lightly raced sort was never subsequently headed bounding clear for a facile seven lengths defeat of Feagh Darroch in 30.47.
