Waterford City Viqueens Roller Derby team will host an Open Day at the Cill Barra Sports Centre, Ballybeg on Friday 23rd of October from 7 to 9pm.
Invitation is open to anyone over 18 who is interested in getting involved in roller derby, whether as a skater, on-skates referee or as a volunteer.
This free open session will give people the chance to strap on a pair of skates and ask questions about roller derby in a fun and friendly environment.
No previous skating experience is required and all the necessary equipment will be available to try on the night.
The Viqueens will also perform a demonstration of a roller derby scrimmage to show what the sport looks like in action.
Roller derby is a full contact sport played on quad roller skates around an oval track.
Two teams send out five players, comprised of four blockers and one jammer, at a time. The jammers score points by lapping players on the opposing team, while the blockers try to prevent the other team’s jammer from scoring points and assist their own jammer to score.
Roller derby is a great way to get fit, make friends and have fun.
