Daryl Murphy has signed a new two year contract with Ipswich Town with the option for a further season.

Former Waterford United striker Daryl Murphy has signed a new two-year deal with the option for a further season at Ipswich Town.
The 31-year old scored 13 goals with the club last season and broke back into the Republic of Ireland side for the first time in nearly six years after joining The Tractor Boys on a permanent basis last summer, having previously spent three loan spells with the Suffolk based club.
During his time at Portman Road, Daryl has played under three different managers, Paul Jewell, Roy Keane and currently with Mick McCarthy.
Daryl, who played with Southend United before heading off to Luton Town, Sunderland, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday on loan expressed his delight at signing the new deal in East Anglia. “I’m really enjoying my football here so I’m obviously delighted to have signed a new contract. I’ve said it before that Ipswich Town feels like home for me-both on and off the pitch. My family love the area and that’s very important to me. We are making great progress as a football club and the challenge now is to continue that this season and hopefully get into the top six. That’s the target. We lost out by just four points last time but Mick McCarthy has brought in some fine new players and I believe we are ready to push on come next month” said Daryl.

Another local player, Stephen Hunt has also signed a new deal at Ipswich Town. The former Crystal Palace, Brentford, Reading, Wolves and Hull City winger has agreed to a one-year deal offered by the club.
He signed a short-term contract with Mick McCarthy last season in November and although he was in and out of the starting 11 he did enough to impress McCarthy and just like Daryl he is happy to get sorted with Ipswich also. “I have loved it here and I’m thrilled that the club have offered me a contract. I cannot wait to get started and get stuck into training and start playing the pre-season games. That fact that Daryl has also signed has made things even better. This is a big club with a great tradition and we will do our level best to the get the club back into the Premier League” stated Stephen who recently opened a new bar in Rosslare.
Jack Doherty, who is currently playing for Waterford United on loan is expected to return to Ipswich on July 31st.
