Park run in 7 tries in U17 rout over Killarney
Munster Under 17 League: Killarney 0; Waterpark 35
The long trip to Killarney produced a seven-try blitzing of the home side to leave Waterpark top of the Munster Under 17 League with maximum points secured thus far.
Within three minutes winger Ben O’Keeffe had crossed in the corner for the opening try after some great driving by the forwards.
This was added to seven minutes later with a great solo effort by Damien O’Dwyer when he split the home defence on halfway to race over for try number two to put Park 10 ahead.
Even at this early stage Killarney were under constant pressure and it was no surprise that they conceded try number three.
A great catch and drive by O’Dwyer from a lineout 10 metres out, saw hooker Darren Coady emerge with the ball to charge over on the blindside unopposed.
The final try of the half came on the half hour mark when flanker Jack O’Donoghue took a lovely inside pass from out-half, Tom Kiersey on half way and powered his way through the home defence to sprint clear under the posts and make it 20-0 at the break.
Early in the second half, Kiersey showed his sublime skills when he evaded several would be tacklers with some brilliant sidesteps on his way to score Park’s fifth try.
With the visitors cruising at this stage, two further hammer blows came in the closing five minutes thanks to tries from Keith Doherty and Kylani Moore.
You may have noticed that there were no conversions or penalties registered in the above scoreline – I am of the opinion that Tom Kiersey decided that this was his way of showing us that he is after all human and is liable to miss a kick. Or two. Or seven!
Under 19 Munster League: Ennis 3; Waterpark 3
From all reports gleaned both from an Ennis and Waterpark perspective, this game was the victim of a whistle happy referee who imposed himself in no uncertain terms on both teams straight from the kick off.
Happily, a successful late penalty strike by Park full-back. Ben Cunningham brought the game to an equitable solution with both teams sharing the points.
