Historic ‘3 in-a-row’ victory for Waterpark College
On Friday last, February 4th, in a blustery Clonmel setting, Waterpark College created history by winning the Munster Schools O’Brien Cup for the third year in a row. They defeated SMI of Newcastle West on a scoreline of 7-0. Both schools had over 100 supporters each viewing a game that turned out to be an exciting battle.
Waterpark College started well, playing into a strong breeze and held onto the ball for long periods. However, they could not break down a strong SMI defence line. There was some outstanding carries from Shane Power, Darren Kelly and Terry Krubu. The backs marshalled their opposite numbers very well and anytime that they tried to move the ball, the boys representing Waterpark closed the space. As the first half drew to a close, the game was a stalemate, with either team failing to register a point.
