Waterpark 2nd Xv 17; Thurles 23

Behind at the break by 3-13 after playing with the breeze, Waterpark staged a spirited comeback in the second period only to be denied by a staunch Thurles defence in this Gleeson Cup Semi-Final in Ballinakill on Sunday last.

Despite having the breeze at their backs in the first half, the only score that Park could muster was a penalty by out half Killian Grant after five minutes. This cancelled out a similar strike by his opposite number, Kenneth Dwyer three minutes previously.

However, Dwyer restored his side’s lead on twenty minutes with a fine kick into the wind from thirty metres and two minutes later was the architect for his sides first try after a speculative kick into the Park half completely deceived the Park full back to bounce nicely for their young centre Barry O’Dwyer to gather and run unopposed under the posts from 40 metres. Dwyer added the simple conversion to increase the margin to 3-13.
