Saints held by Villa
Villa 2; St Saviours 2
Having taken a point from Tramore in Graun Park the previous Sunday, St Saviour’s wanted to get back to winning form on Wednesday last when they played Villa in Connors Park, but once again they had to settle for a share of the points. The result did little for them in their quest to catch the leaders Tramore.
Danny Walsh created the first goal of the game for the home side and Conor McDonald put Villa in front after 18 minutes. Central defender James Kennedy for the Saints back on level terms on 36 minutes. Back came the Villa and they regained the lead when Danny Walsh lobbed the ball over the St Saviour’s goalkeeper Graham Cleary on 51 minutes.
St Saviours had a great chance to level the game when they were awarded a penalty five minutes later but Stephen Dalton struck an upright with his spot kick. Dalton made up for that miss by scoring a fine goal on 76 minutes, his 8th league goal of the current campaign.
Cian O’Brien, the Villa goalkeeper, produced two wonderful saves late on in the game. He touched over a blistering effort from John Paul Jacob after 81 minutes and then he somehow managed to stop a point-blank header from Brian O’Donoghue in the dying moments.
