Tramore and Carrick march on in Munster
After losing the Munster Junior Cup final to Fairview Rangers last season, Carrick United kept their 2010 bid going by getting the better of Ferrybank at Coolnamuck on Sunday afternoon.
They didn’t have the perfect start to the contest as Alan Coady saw red from referee Adam Tzampel following a clash with a Ferrybank player after only five minutes, and when Ferrybank goalkeeper Hugh Mullally saved a Wayne Fitzgerald penalty shortly afterwards, it wasn’t ideal for the home side.
However, they found the breakthrough thanks to a stunning Ian Cleary free kick midway into the first half and when Keith Walsh and Anthony Power added further goals in the second period it ensured their passage into the next round.
They have been joined in the draw by Tramore, who defeated Dungarvan United at Kilrush Park 2-0 but the seaside outfit had to fight hard for victory.
Christopher Grace hit the crossbar early on for the visitors but the same player did find the net with a fine finish on 27 minutes. Although Dungarvan pressed for an equaliser they couldn’t score and it was former Old Boro player Micheal Downey that made sure of victory when he scored in injury time.
