After going one up early on in last Sunday’s classic SFAI Cup clash at Connors Park, and seeing an opposing defender sent off, Villa must have thought that it was going to be their day. Alas, the Dubliners turned things round in dramatic fashion and were worth winners in the finish.
Tadhg Whelan had a chance for Villa after just three minutes when he reacted quickest to a Mark Walsh free-kick into the penalty area; however, the midfielder headed rather weakly at visiting goalkeeper Ger Doran from close range.
Villa were awarded a penalty and the Dublin outfit reduced to ten players on 11 minutes when Niall McCabe got the better of defender Ross McKenna and when he was dragged down in the area, referee Gary Fitzgerald pointed to the spot and red carded McKenna.
