Swiss rolled

Getting there but still some way off, Andy Murray joined the Tennis Tears Club after his predictable defeat by Roger Federer in the Australian Open final.

The Scot was a clear second-best to the Swiss, whose dominance of the sport is admirable for his brilliance, but way beyond boring. “I can cry like Roger; it’s just a shame I can’t play like him,” he sniffed, ensuring there wouldn’t be a dry eye in Dunblane.

The inevitable ‘Murray Mania’ will be about the most interesting aspect of Wimbledon 2010 – and I didn’t think I’d ever hear myself say that. Indeed, I wouldn’t begrudge the Brits if Andy’s next weep was one of joy.
