Stunning Zebo’s star still rising

PicAIf there’s a better individual moment in this year’s Six Nations Championship than Simon Zebo’s heel-flick at the Millennium Stadium last Saturday (February 2nd), then we’re in for one hell of a spring of rugby. But the audacity of Zebo’s fancy footwork, which proved instrumental in the build-up to Cian Healy’s try will come as no surprise to those who have monitored Zebo’s rise through the rugby ranks.

It was only a few weekends ago that Zebo sent the Thomond Park decibel levels through the roof when registering a sensational hat-trick against Racing Metro in the European Cup. A season ago, again in the final pool match against Harlequins, the Cork-born winger crossed the opposition whitewash three times, earning deserved plaudits around Europe thereafter. The press ‘across the water’ began to take note of something observers closer to home had long suspected: that we had something special in Simon Zebo. That he plays in such a high-pressure environment without batting an eyelid, embracing the joy of the tussle from first minute ‘til last, has made him an instant hit with Munster and Ireland fans alike.
