Bill Kenneally (68) was brought before Waterford District Court on Tuesday last where he was charged with 171 counts of sexual assault against three boys during the 1980s. A book of evidence is expected to be served on the former sports coach, formerly of Summerville Avenue in Waterford city, by the end of this month.
Kenneally, who appeared in the District Court last week, has been remanded in custody until January 28th following the granting of a further adjournment in the case by Judge Kevin Staunton to allow Gardaí additional time to complete the Book of Evidence. The adjournment application was by consent from Kenneally’s solicitor, Matthew Byrne.

On Tuesday last, Inspector Siobhan Keating brought evidence of arrest, charge and caution before the court via a written schedule and directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions dated November 26th last, which requested a trial on indictment.Inspector Keating said the DPP had also issued consent for Kenneally to be sent forward for a sentence on a signed plea in the event of it arising. Kenneally did not speak during the hearing, nor was he called upon to do so. Legal aid was granted to the accused, an accountant buy profession, with Mr Byrne assigned to the case.
