Former Irish Times journalist gave a most absorbing talk in Lismore last Saturday at the Immrama travel writers festival.
He spoke of his period as a foreign correspondent for the paper in Moscow, Beijing, Kabul and Moscow.
He told amusing tales of his time covering the troubles in Belfast, at the Europa hotel, where many top world writers would stay and how some were covering events from the hotel, which had been so attacked that it was called the most bombed hotel in Europe back in the seventies.
