Extensive searches were carried out at an area between Pebble Beach and the Prom in Tramore by Gardaí throughout Tuesday, following reports of a violent incident in the town earlier that morning.
However, Gardaí now believe the reported incident did not actually take place.
Many residents and holiday-makers in Tramore were awoken before 5am on Tuesday by the sound of the Coast Guard Search And Rescue helicopter, which had been called in to assist Gardaí in their investigation.
The Garda search centred around the lake and park area close to Pebble Beach, with the helicopter shining its search light on an area from the racecourse to the Sandhills and out over the bay.
The Garda search concluded on Tuesday evening and a spokesperson declined to comment further on the nature of the alleged incident.
