The title Imphigenie en Tauride has that posh connotation of classy opera and coming straight by simulcast from The Met in New York to Dungarvan might blot the shine on the fur coat, but with Placido Domingo as Oreste and Susan Graham as Imphigenie you cannot go wrong for €25 a ticket.
SGC Dungarvan is a lovely, almost intimate venue, comfortable seating, good sound and a fine screen. You learn to put aside, the fact that Gluck, back in 1779, saw these characters as youths, but with world class singers as Domingo and Graham doing the “big sing”, who’d complain.
