You must get in to see the Techshots Photographic society Show at Greyfriars Gallery upstairs. It features the work of 13 people who enrolled on a WCFE course to explore digital photography. I know photo-purists will tut-tut this style of enhancement and manipulation but so much of advertising etc is digitally enhanced, these days.
There are distinct images and styles on display and these photographers must have had a blast under the instruction of Valerie Stone. I loved the compressed imagery of Michelle Devereaux’s Zen Zest and two adorable baby pics – Moncie Evans has a hairy-chested father cradling his new born daughter and Brid Flynn has a baby in a saucepan. Flynn, a south Kilkenny new mother has a spectacular shot of the new bridge.
Sharon Stevenson excels with New Horizons – a shot of a new section of road but it tells a journey.
This show is short on photo-journalism but you will enjoy the quality portraiture of Ann Tweedy who captures age and experience in two studies.
Look out for the very professional work of Gabrielle Dalton especially Bubble Boy.
This show deserves to be expanded to fill the gallery upstairs and downstairs and to return for a long period in the summer.
