An Rinn got their senior football campaign off to a successful start when they overcame a disjointed Tramore side in Leamybrien last Saturday evening. An Rinn owed much of their success to county star Liam O’Lionain who finished the game with a total of five points from play.
An Rinn opened the scoring in the very first minute when Mike Toibin converted a free but this was cancelled out almost immediately when Tramore’s star player Martin Whelan scored s fine point from play. Tramore actually took the lead in the fourth minute when wing-forward William Cullinane scored. This was to be the only time that Tramore would lead in this game as they were forced to play second fiddle to the men from the Gaeltacht.
An Rinn equalised with a free from county minor player, Shane O’Ceallaigh and then went back into the lead when Toibin converted another free.
It was a full ten minutes later before we had the game’s next score and then it was a free from Tramore’s Declan King. The exchange of frees continued as Toibin put An Rinn back into the lead when he kicked over another one.
As half-time approached a fine point from Tramore’s county panellist Paul Ogle brought Tramore back on level terms yet again.
In such a close encounter, it was soon apparent that the team who scored the first goal would acquire a significant advantage. And so it was. In the 29th minute An Rinn wing-back Tadhg O’Huallachain went on a magnificent solo run before passing to his forward colleague Padraig O’Drochain. O’Drochain took aim and let fly, giving Tramore goalkeeper, Glen Kelly absolutely no chance. An Rinn built on their lead almost immediately when Toibin scored a smart point from play.
